Hardly any other artist has devoted himself so much to the body and soul of art as Peter Gilles. In his creative work he went to his physical and emotional limits. The central theme of his work was man with his existential challenges. The exception artist decisively influenced the Cologne art scene in the 1980s and 1990s and manifested his place in art history as one of the most important representatives of action and performance art. His works are „fragments to clarify one’s own identity“, which make the dimension of violence, suffering and lust in human existence palpable. His unique style of painting has made him famous in countless exhibitions and his works can be found in important collections and museums.
